Proper Washer Loading

Many times while loading clothes into front-loading washing machines we overlook some simple yet effective preventative actions that can prevent a appliance repair visit.
I receive many repair calls from Boise homeowners who describe a rip or chunk that has been taken out of their washer door seal.  Most times the rip is in the six o’clock position. Most never realize what causes this.  I’ve heard things such as their little fluffy dog had bitten a piece out of it or their toddler bit a piece out of it.  Ha Ha.
No, what actually causes this rip in the washer seal is improper loading of the clothes.  When the clothes are not pushed to the back of the drum far enough before the door is closed it sets up the perfect conditions for seal to rip.  If the clothing is hanging out just a small amount when the door is closed, it pinches the clothing between the seal and the inner door.  When the drum goes into the spin mode, it will rip a chunk right out of the seal in the six o’clock position.
Unfortunately, this can happen after a new seal has been installed.  I always warn my customers of this when I run into  this type of repair.

Just when I thought spring was around the corner winter rears it's semi-ugly head, well that is unless your s skier or just love snow.  I'm right in the middle.  I love the snow but hate the delays and the dangerous driving.  I had 5 jobs I had to complete today.  A washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, and refrigerator repair.  What an assortment in one day!  Oh well, to start things off, it took me 1 hour to drive 6 miles on Victory Road in Meridian.  The freeway was backed up and everyone was driving extremely slow.  Most thought it was a good idea to take side streets.  Well I guess everyone had that idea by the looks of it.  Well, I guess we should count our blessings, this is a great place to live.

Winter Refrigerator Settings for Garage

If you have a refrigerator in your garage like this one you may not get the proper freezing temperature in your freezer in the cold winter months.  In many whirlpool and kenmore refrigerators the thermostat is located in the fresh food section and will be affected by cold garage air temperature.  The cold air permeates through the refrigerator inhibiting the thermostat from turning the compressor on.  One way to lessen this problem is to adjust both the refrigerator and freezer knobs to max.   If you have any question, we can be reached at 208-344-4893, Western Appliance Repair.

Winter is not done with us yet

This has been a tough winter for appliance repair.  This week our weather will reach into the 40's so we'll see some of this snow melt off.  I'll be so glad.

Evaporator Fan Operation

This  is a evaporator fan motor that is located in the freezer of a bottom-mount refrigerator at a house in Boise.

The evaporator fan motor is responsible for circulating cold air from the freezer to the fresh food side of the refrigerator.  All the cooling necessary to cool your food is supplied by the freezer evaporator.  The freezing air is blown upwards, in French-door or bottom-mount refrigerators.  The airflow is constant in most cases.

The cold air is regulated to keep a steady temperature by the use of a damper and damper motor.  The damper is opened and closed based on the refrigerator temperature - as detected by a thermistor or thermostat.

When these fans go bad the fresh food will warm but the food in the freezer will stay frozen.  You may also hear strange noise, rumbling, coming from the bad fan bearing.

When this happens, call a professional who has the necessary experience to complete your repair quickly and professionally.
